How to choose steel structure fireproof coating?

 When selecting fireproofing coatings, the following points should be noted?

(1) Don't use the finish type fireproof coating for steel structures, the finish type fireproof coating is the fire retardant coating to protect the combustible substrate such as wood structure, and the thin coating film can't reach the purpose of improving the fire resistance limit of steel structure.

(2) Thin-coated steel structure intumescent fireproof coating should not be used to protect steel structures with a fire resistance limit above 2.5h.

Thin-coated intumescent fire-resistant coating is not too long fire-resistant limit is determined by its own raw materials and fire prevention principles. This type of coating contains more organic components, coating at high temperatures will cause physical and chemical changes, and the formation of carbonaceous bubble film can play a role in heat insulation. Expanded bubble film strength is limited, easy to crack, and fall off, charcoal at a high temperature of 1000 will gradually gray out.

For a steel structure with a fire resistance limit of 2.5h or more, a thick-coated steel structure with a fireproof and heat-insulating coating must be used. 

(3) Indoor steel structure fireproof coating shall not be used directly for spraying protection of outdoor steel structures without improvement or effective waterproof measures.

The environmental conditions of open-air steel structures are much harsher than indoor, fully exposed to sunlight and atmosphere, sun and rain, wind and snow cover, so it is necessary to choose water-resistant, freeze-thaw cycle-resistant, aging-resistant and able to withstand acid, alkali, salt, and other chemical corrosion of the outdoor steel structure fireproofing coatings for spraying protection.

(4) In general, indoor steel structure fire protection should not choose outdoor steel structure fireproof coating, to ensure the excellent performance of outdoor steel structure fireproof coating, its raw material requirements are strict, and need some special materials, so its price is much more expensive than indoor steel structure fireproof coating. However, for semi-open-air or some wet environment steel structures, it is suitable to choose outdoor steel structure fireproof coating for protection.

(5) Thick-coated fireproof coating is basically composed of inorganic material, with stable coating and slow aging speed, as long as the coating does not fall off, the fireproof performance is guaranteed. From the consideration of durability and fire resistance, it is appropriate to choose a thick-coated fireproof coating.

With the progress of technology, the fire resistance limit of 2h above the thin coating type fireproof coating also has related products, but at present its market price is expensive, is the conventional thick coating type fireproof coating several times or even a dozen times, so the actual project used less.
