Application of foreign long-span steel structures
Long-span steel structures are mostly used in multi-functional stadiums, conference and exhibition centers, expo halls, waiting halls, hangars , etc. The earliest flat space frame with the largest span was the 91m×122m square quadrangular pyramid in the gymnasium of the University of California in Los Angeles in the 1960s. The largest double-layer reticulated shells are the Houston Astrodome (196m in diameter) and the New Orleans Superdome (207m in diameter) built in the United States in the 1970s. In the 1990s, a single-layer reticulated shell with the largest span in the world was built in Nagoya, Japan, with a building diameter of 229.6m and a structural diameter of 187.2m. Three-dimensional grids were used, and the nodes were rigid nodes capable of bearing axial force and bending moment. The largest indoor gymnasium in the world is the main gymnasium of the 1996 Olympic Games in the United States—the Atlanta Stadium (quasi-elliptical plane, 186m×235m). A new type of space structur...
